About Alaska Outdoor Education Classes
The Outdoor Education class is a primer for your Alaska backcountry trip or tour. it is mostly aimed at people who have little or no experience with the outdoors or Alaska. however it is also worthwhile for even experienced outdoors people to attend as there is valuable information inside the class with guest teachers who bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. In the class you can learn about subjects such as: plant identification, wildlife, environmental protection, land navigation and compass skills, first aid and wilderness first aid and CPR, and useful knots. If you are interested in Attending other classes we offer such as introduction to climbing and mountaineering this is a good place to start. The class is great for children and young adults as well who are interested in the outdoors.
Trail Hiking
Not sure what to eat in the wild? When in doubt don’t put it in your mouth! There are many edible wild plants in Alaska , some which are nutritious and delicious. However, there an equal amount if not more of poisonous wild plants to! Sometimes poisonous plants can even look like edible species. It is very important to know about which plants are safe to eat and which are poisonous. That is why we included the information into our class. learning about the plants around you can save your life and also educate you about what the animals eat, and most importantly which plants to stay away from.
High Mountain Trails
In the digital age, too many children and young adults are stuck behind a phone or tablet screen. The duty to educate young adults and children on the environment, and wilderness skills is very important if we want the future generations to respect and use the wilderness. To keep the young ones safe and further their education we have made the classes very youth friendly and have special teachers who are very well adept in teaching youth. Our classes are commonly taught to youth between the ages of 7-18 years of age.
